Kalathil Family in Ranni is an ancient family which has migrated from Kalathil Family Chennithala in Alleppy District. It has branches all over kerala especially in Ranni, Mavelikkara, Chennithala, Punalur, Adimali etc. Its headquarters is considered to be in Eramathoor, Chennithala.
The founder of Kalathil Family in Ranni is Late Mr. Oommen who along with his 5 children migrated to Ranni about 75 years ago. In the early years it was a kind of struggle for the Kalathil Family members to establish themselves in the new place. But after a bit of struggle they got settled in ranni. After the death of Mr. Oommen, his second son Mr. Oommen George was given the task to lead the family along with his younger brother Mr.Oommen Pappy. At the same time Mr.Oommen's elder son Mr. Oommen Kutty had got settled in Kambilikandom in Adimaly. That gave rise to a new chapter of Kalathil family in Adimali.
The two daughters of Mr.Oommen were got married in Mundakkayam and Seethathode respectively. Mr.Oommen George married Saramma who belonged to the Kodinjiyil family in Vadaserikkara. Mean while Mr.Oommen Pappy also married Aleykutty.

After this Mr. Oommen Kutty lead a hectic life in the highrange area of Kambilikandom, which was a much backward area in those times. He had 5 children. Of those 5 children he had 3 sons, K.K.George, K.K.Thankachen and K.K.Joy respectively.

Mr.Oommen George led his life with his wife and children in Ranni. Mr.Oommen George had 4 sons and 3 daughters named K.G.Mathews, K.G Abraham, K.G.Chacko, K.G.Joseph, Aleykutty, Mariamma and Sossamma respectively. The four sons of Oommen George got married and is give in details below.

K.G.Mathews - Ammini(Chennithala), K.G.Abraham - Sossamma(Vennikulam), K.G.Chacko - Ammal(Vakathanam) and K.G.Joseph - Kunjumol(Mavelikkara). The three daughters got married to the places Ranni, Mannar and Adoor respectively.
